THE WORLD-FAMOUS ORIGINAL
Don Cossack Chorus Serge Jaroff

Ivan Davidoff (Иван Давыдов)

Ivan Davidoff (Иван Давыдов). April 24, 1885 in Russia (Don) - ?

Ivan Davidoff is a founding member of the choir in the Tschillingir camp.

The singer left the Don Cossack Choir Serge Jaroff with seven other singers at the beginning of 1935.

According to a statement from the secretary of the Don Cossack Choir, S. Jaroff, regarding a denunciation by the choir director and some of his members in 1936 in the Third Reich, Germany:

«Mr. Dawidoff warmly congratulated the conductor on his name day in Ahlbeck on July 18, 1935, in an extremely amiable letter. On my own initiative I wrote to Mr Dawidoff (he is the only Cossack among the 7 members who left) and suggested that he get in touch with Mr Jaroff about his possible return to the choir.

Mr. Davidoff thanked me very warmly and at the same time informed me that at the moment he unfortunately could not make use of my offer because his passport was in the police headquarters for renewal (the choir was about to leave for America), but he asked me to give him the To enable a return on January 1, 1936 (Note: after returning of the choir to Germany from the America travel.)

It is completely unclear to me to what extent the listed correspondence is supposed to bear witness to Mr Dawidoff's resignation for political reasons, of all things.»

Ivan Dawidoff is featured on all postcards of the newly formed Leuchtenberg Choir (Chor der Donkosaken Herzog von Leuchtenberg / Ataman Kaledin). By mid-1941 at the latest (attack on the Soviet Union / beginning of the retaliation bombing of German cities) the performances of Cossack choirs in Germany should no longer have been desired, which led to the dissolution of these choirs.
