Today, after some years have passed, information of the first three "Czechoslovak Peace Prize" awards would be of interest. They were awarded to Vitezslav Nezval for the "Song of Peace"; to Max Svabinsky for a portrait of Julius Fucik, and to the composer Jan Cikker for the cantata "Hail on Stalin" (1949). The preamble said: "This decision (of the CzVOM) outlines a clear and binding program for our cultural and artistic public: To keep being tuned to the harmoniously grandiose song of peace whose key was intoned by the poet Vitezslav Nezval, to stand fast in the peaceful front of nations led by Stalin the cantata on whom was composed by Jan Cikker on behalf of all of us, and to keep on pondering incessantly and intensively upon the words 'People, be watchful!' left to us as a legacy by Julius Fucik whose portrait had been painted by Max Svabinsky". ("Mir" No. 2/1951, p. 92). |
