Name: Джаз-оркестр в гостиннице "Европейская", Ленинград, 1936
Additional information: This photo comes courtesy of the Hotel Europe in Saint Petersburg where, in 1932, I know Yakov Skomorovsky organized his jazz band. This photo is from 1936 but I’m not sure if it’s Skomorovsky. So my question(s) for the experts on this forum:
Is it known if Skomorovsky was still playing at the hotel by 1936? And if not him, who? I have my doubts about it because nobody looks like Skomorovsky in the photo (and, no violin, which is his instrument.)

Скоморовского на фото точно нет. Из того малого количества фотографий джаза Скоморовского, что я видел, не могу узнать никого из музыкантов его джаза. Видимо это другой коллектив.
Skomorovskogo in the photo is definitely not. Of the small number of photographs of jazz Skomorovskogo what I saw, can’t recognize any of the musicians of his jazz. Apparently this is a different team.

Thank you - as I suspected. Are any photos of Skomorvsky’s orchestra available online? Google searches in english and Russian have turned up no results.

And furthermore, if anyone has any other photos or information related to Jazz in Russia in this time period, please get in contact with me. I am very interested in this subject but, because my practical Russian language is nonexistence, I appreciate any contributions.

There are very good pictures Skomorovsky and his orchestra, at the time they were transferred to his daughter in the St. Petersburg archive of literature and art

BTW violin was not Yakov Skomorovsky’s instrument: it was his brother Abram’s. Yakov Skomorovsky graduated from the St. Petersburg Imperial Conservatory in 1912 as a trumpet player, and it was the trumpet he played ever since. Yakov and Abram also had another brother, Aleksandr, who played the piano (in 1932, all three of them were members of Yakov Skomorovsky’s Concert Jazz Band.)
