The Russian Cossack's choirs had big influence on the male-voice choir singing in Switzerland. Since the songs of the Don Cossacks Choir of Serge Jaroff were very popular there. Thus several songs of this choir were adapted in Switzerland. "Who has invented the dissolution ..." is an example with the melody of the Cossack song "Stenka Rasin", with a terribly sentimental text ("... has not thought in love"). Also they did not succeed in singing in the kind of the Don Cossacks. Nevertheless, these songs were very popular in Switzerland and to hear in the 1950s and the sixties regularly in the Swiss Radio. This interpretation is from the Singing Club of the Gymnastics Association of Zürich. |
